How to Compare Environmental Drill Rigs: 12 Questions Before You Buy

Two quotes for an environmental drill rig rarely include the same list of items. One may bundle tooling that the other charges separately, or advertise a depth that only holds for one of the methods. To compare them properly, use the questions below before you decide.
About the machine
What is the real depth in direct push and in hollow stem auger? Ask for each figure separately, and under which soil conditions it was achieved.
What is the maximum hollow stem auger diameter? This defines the diameter of the wells you will be able to build.
What are the engine power and fuel type? Power affects driving capacity in difficult soils.
What are the weight and the way the rig moves? Weight and track type define transport and access to restricted sites.
How is the rig controlled? Check whether a remote control is included and what it covers.
About the tooling kit
What comes in the kit and what is sold separately? Compare quotes with the same set of rods, liners, samplers and accessories.
Is the tooling compatible with market standards? That makes replacement easier and lets you buy items from other suppliers.
Can the kit be expanded later? Your services may change and the machine has to keep up.
About support
Are spare parts available in your country, and how fast do they arrive? A stopped machine costs more than the difference between two quotes.
Does technical support work in the field or only at the factory? Ask for the average response time.
Is there training for operators and field crews? Correct operation extends machine life and raises productivity.
Does the manufacturer already supply companies in your segment? Ask for usage references, not just equipment specs.
How to use this checklist
Build a table with the quotes side by side and answer each question in writing. Where information is missing, ask for it by email. A quote that does not answer these questions often hides future costs.
The SAM 400 in your comparison
The SAM 400 from Diamond Drill has an 89 CV diesel engine, direct push and hollow stem auger up to 40 m, 3,950 kg and a remote control included, with a tooling kit sized to each operation. See the SAM 400 page and request a quote to include in your comparison.
